Fall 2023 at the daplab: review and celebration

Updated: Dec 21, 2023

Our lab recently had a blast celebrating the end of the quarter with some bowling at Irvine Lanes!

We're proud of the work we accomplished this year, and we want to share some highlights from the fall quarter below:

  • Seth got his first AERA poster accepted! He'll be presenting some work from our Careergram project around AI-supported occupational identity development.

  • Julie got her workshop to AERA accepted! She'll be presenting about co-design with local community partners, building on work from the City STEM learning project.

  • Maria, Julie, John, Fabio, June, and our friends at the STEM Learning Lab published a paper in the International Journal of Child-Computer Interaction, Towards culturally sustaining design: Centering community’s voices for learning through Participatory Design.

  • June was featured on a KABC evening news segment about Artificial Intelligence in Schools.

  • Our work around AI in education was featured in the latest issue of Advancing, the quarterly magazine for the UCI School of Education.

  • Audrey presented her work on game-based learning analytics at the Southern California Conference for Undergraduate Research 2023.

  • Sharon received an offer for a Software Engineering internship at Netflix for Summer 2024!

We also love celebrating our daplab alumni who graduated last year and started new adventures this fall:

  • Isabel is an Associate Developer at Arkane Digital in Seattle, Washington.

  • Isabella started her Ph.D. in Education at UC Irvine! You can read more about her journey here.

  • Jessica is a Graduate Student at Harvard University Graduate School of Education pursuing a Master of Education (MEd) in Learning, Design, Innovation and Technology.

Finally, please join us in welcoming our new PhD student Kathy and new undergraduate RAs: Aasha, Aashi, Celia, Darian, Jacqueline, and Jamie! We can't wait to see what next year has in store for us.
